In the development of the IT industry in the Košice region cluster Košice IT Valley plays an important role. The association was established in 2007 as a joint initiative of educational institutions, government and leading IT companies. In 2012 it was transformed into the cluster. In 2015 the cluster was certified for “Cluster Management Excellence Label GOLD” as the first in central Europe and is one of three certified clusters in the area of information and communication technologies.
It currently has 53 members.
Main activities of the cluster:
- Motivation of children and youth to study and later to work in the Information Technologies and Robotics
- Improving the quality of IT training programs offered by universities, high and elementary schools and IT businesses.
- Supporting all forms of cooperation and innovation.
- Preparation and implementation of joint scientific – research projects and providing consultancy in this area.
- Support the cooperation of members internally and cooperation of cluster with other organizations on national and international level.
- Elaboration of analyses, studies and prognoses of the further development of region and society.

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) is a state university founded in 1952 in Kosice, in Eastern Slovakia. The university provides educational, scientific and technological knowledge basis, innovation and workforce for the regional as well as nationally with over 9000 students, 1800 employees. It has nine faculties -- seven are engineering oriented, one is focused on economics and one is specialized in arts. Even as a state university, more than 40% of the total revenue consists of other than government sources including income from business activities linked to research and cooperation with companies.
Innovative opportunities together with scientific research and development are getting a new shift in the technically oriented University Science Park TECHNICOM (USP TECHNICOM) that was established in the campus of the Technical University of Košice as a part of TUKE organisational infrastructure. USP TECHNICOM has the ambition to become a central hub for building a regional innovation ecosystem. USP TECHNICOM is established to act as an internationally recognized technology research and technology transfer center for innovative applications with the support of knowledge technologies. Further, through its pre-incubation services, it significantly contributes to acceleration of business plans in creation (incubation) of new “spin-off or start-up” companies built on knowledge base as acquired from R&D.
