Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice ranks among the notable and respected educational and scientific institutions not only in Slovakia but also in Europe. At present, the University consists of the Faculties of Medicine, Science, Law, Public Administration, and Arts, which educate physicians, specialists in natural sciences, mathematicians and information scientists, teachers, lawyers, professionals in the field of public administration, philosophy, history, languages, psychology, and social work. The university offers 176 study programs on BA, MA and PhD levels for about 7000 students. Graduates from this second oldest classical Slovak university enjoy good reputation in the region, country and also abroad. Since 2013 the UPJŠ has been building the University Medical Science and Technology Park – MEDIPARK, the top international centre for applied research and its transfer into practice in the field of biomedicine.
The UPJŠ is also a partner in two other science parks – TECHNICOM and PROMATECH. The University established its Technology and Innovation Park (TIP) in 2017, which aims to become the centre of scientific and technological excellence at the UPJŠ in Košice in the fields of biomedicine, biotechnology, information technologies, and advanced materials. The main mission of the TIP – UPJŠ is the establishment of a high-quality centre of capitalized research, with an efficiently working environment for business activities in the high-tech industry.
