International law firm CMS is thrilled to have been awarded — for the third consecutive year — the Slovakia Law Firm of the Year at the 2022 CIJ Awards, which recognised CMS as the market-leading property law firm in Slovakia. The awards ceremony was held in Bratislava on Tuesday, 22 November 2022.
The CIJ Awards are the longest-running commercial property awards event for Slovakia and have evolved continuously over the past 18 years to keep pace with changes in local, regional and international property markets.
Despite the current slowdown in the Slovak property market, CMS has never before had such a strong pipeline of transactions and projects and moves from strength to strength, winning new clients and handling market-leading deals in the real estate sector. The CMS Slovakia team also continues to foster its relationship with notable clients such as Panattoni and Primark to whom they provide complex legal advice in connection with their construction and leasing activities across Slovakia.
CMS Slovakia continue to be also one of—if not the—most active firms in Slovakia regarding the logistics and industrial asset market, which has become one of the most prominent real estate asset types in the country. Despite the unfortunate events of the past years, this area remains very hot, and CMS is the law firm of choice for several major regional and international players, advising on some of the most notable headline transactions and projects, including a major European commercial real estate development company on multiple acquisitions of industrial land and the subsequent construction of substantial logistics parks in Slovakia, and Allianz/VGP on the Slovak aspects of its EUR 166m acquisition of a cross-border logistics portfolio, including a Slovak business park, which consists of industrial warehouses of 20,000 sq. m. near Bratislava.
Among its recent and dynamic transactions, CMS Slovakia provided local advice and support to MOL Group on the Slovak stream regarding the sale of 185 service stations in Hungary (144 stations) and Slovakia (41 stations) to PKN Orlen for EUR 229m.
Commenting on the award, CMS partner Michal Huťan, stated: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our incredible accomplishments and we are deeply grateful to have had the chance to work alongside such extraordinary clients over the year. Gaining this momentum, the team will continue to drive our growth on the market to prove our current and future clients that we indeed are the law firm of choice in the region”.
